PSA Course Overview
This is an essential course for shipboard personnel – there are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Proficiency in Security Awareness is a half day course (4 Hours) for seafarers employed or engaged on ships which comply with the ISPS Code, but have not been designated specific security duties.
Security Awareness training must be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships who are required to comply with the ISPS Code. This training meets the requirements of Section A-VI/6 paragraph 4 of the amended STCW Code.

• Threats to the maritime transport industry
• Maritime security definitions
• Security roles and responsibilities
• Company and Ship security requirements
• Security threat levels
• Security measures and procedures
Outcome 1: The learner is aware of the importance of the security and the roles of those involved in its provision.
Outcome 2: The learner is aware of the requirements and measures to maintain ship security.
Outcome 3: The learner is able to recognise and report a security threat
Who needs this course?
Anybody working on a ship
Eg: Engineers, Entertainment staff, catering staff etc
Certification
All candidates will be issued with an STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness Certificate.
